Kevin Kuhlke acted with Anne Bogart, Mabou Mines, The Builders Association, The Iowa Theater Lab, Teatron/LaMama, The Holderness Company, and Robert Wilson. He performed in several theaters including Lincoln Center, The Public Theater, LaMama, MOMA, The Culture Project, Franklin Furnace, PS 122, Danspace and regionally. His directing work includes over forty productions spanning a wide range of material in various venues including The Atlantic Theater Company, Seattle Rep, The Huntington Theater Company, Theater for A New Audience, The Atlas Center for Performance and New Media, The Reykjavik City Theater (Iceland). A.R.T. Institute, Moscow Arts Theater Institute, and International Theater Festivals in London and with his award winning The Bacchae in Warsaw. His production of O,Pioneers! with Mary McDonnell was televised nationally by American Playhouse P.B.S. His play Winesberg; Small Town Life was produced at the Perseverance Theater. His plays My Eyes and Your Eyes, The Adventures of Orlando and Virginia and his adaptation of Salome were produced at Tisch. He has directed productions in collaboration with several contemporary composers including; Heather Christian, Shaina Taub, Cynthia Hopkins, Liz Swadoz and Heaven Phillips. He has taught master classes in acting and directing in Cuba, Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, England, and in several American training programs including CalArts, Naropa, Yale and A.R.T. He was a mentor for the Sundance Institute’s New Frontier Program. He trained with, among many others, Mary Overlie, William Esper (Meisner), Jerzy Grotowski, Rina Yerushalmi, Ada Brown Mather and Joseph Chaikin, He was Chair of NYU Tisch Drama from 2001-2008 and was the director of their Experimental Theater Wing from 1991-2001 where he co-produced over 100 productions. He is the founder and director of the Tisch International Theater Summer Actor Training program in Amsterdam, The Tisch Actor Training Program in Berlin, and the International Theater Workshop in Iceland.
