Synopsis
A glorious tribute to the award-winning Apple TV+ series, SCHMIGADOON! is a love letter to Broadway’s Golden Age. New York doctors Josh and Melissa set out on a couples’ backpacking retreat to rekindle the flame, but instead find themselves to have accidentally wandered into Schmigadoon—the magical town where every day is a musical. Everybody has a song for everything, the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye, and the only bridge out of town leads nowhere. Melissa and Josh soon discover the only way to escape is by finding true love—which may or may not be with each other.
Casting & Production
Casting
Main Couple (The Outsiders):
JOSH SKINNER — A cynical New York orthopedic surgeon who actively detests musical theatre. He finds himself trapped in the town while trying to save his relationship.
MELISSA GIMBLE — An optimistic, theatre-loving New York OB-GYN. Unlike Josh, she is thrilled by the magical musical surroundings but desperately wants to find true love.
Schmigadoon Townspeople:
MAYOR ALOYSIUS MENLOVE — The relentlessly cheerful, closeted mayor of Schmigadoon who just wants everyone to find happiness while hiding his own secrets.
MILDRED LAYTON — The judgmental, controlling villain and self-appointed moral compass of the town. She is a pastiche of Mrs. Shinn from The Music Man.
DANNY BAILEY — The rebellious, smooth-talking local carnival worker. He is a direct parody of the “bad boy” archetype, specifically Billy Bigelow from Carousel.
BETSY McDONOUGH — A highly flirtatious, ultra-romantic farmer’s daughter who aggressively pursues Josh. She is modeled after Ado Annie from Oklahoma!.
DOC — The stern, emotionally closed-off town doctor. He acts as a strict, von Trapp-style figure (The Sound of Music) who reluctantly takes Melissa on as his nurse.
EMMA TATE — The town’s fiercely independent and progressive schoolteacher. Her archetype blends Marian the Librarian (The Music Man) and Anna Leonowens (The King and I).
THE REVEREND LAYTON/LEPRECHAUN — Mildred’s soft-spoken, completely submissive husband who serves as the town’s kind-hearted preacher.
FLORENCE MENLOVE — The mayor’s incredibly devoted, hilariously oblivious wife.
CARSON TATE — Emma’s adorable, lisping younger brother who mirrors Winthrop Paroo from The Music Man.
