Synopsis

In the summer of 1959, greaser Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski enjoy a sweet summer romance and part ways believing they will never meet again. When Sandy unexpectedly enrols at Rydell High and reunites with Danny, their relationship becomes far more complicated. Determined to maintain his tough reputation with the Burger Palace Boys, Danny downplays his feelings for Sandy, whilst Sandy struggles to find her place among the gum-smacking Pink Ladies. As friendships, rivalries, and teenage dreams collide, the students of Rydell navigate love, identity, and growing up. Bursting with rock ’n’ roll energy and iconic songs like “Greased Lightnin’,” “Summer Nights,” and “We Go Together,” GREASE has remained one of the world’s most popular and enduring musicals and an exuberant celebration of young love, teenage rebellion, and the electrifying spirit of the 1950s.

GREASE: School Edition has been adapted from the original Broadway production. All references to cigarettes, alcohol, and profanity have been removed, and the songs have been shortened and edited for content. Several plot elements are also cut, including Rizzo’s pregnancy subplot and her song “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” as well as the beginning of the pajama party in Marty’s bedroom. GREASE: School Edition is considered to be G-rated.

Standard licences issued by TRW for the musical GREASE: School Edition do not include the additional songs written for the film (The “Movie Song Pack”). Should you wish to include these four (4) film songs, “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “You’re the One That I Want,” “Grease,” and “Sandy,” in your performance, you can purchase the Movie Song Pack listed on your TRW License Agreement in the optional extra resource section. Please note: The Movie Song Pack songs are to be used in your performance as follows: “Grease” is added without replacing any song (it slots in at the beginning); “Sandy” replaces “Alone at the Drive-In Movie”; “Hopelessly Devoted to You” replaces “It’s Raining on Prom Night”; and “You’re the One That I Want” replaces “All Choked Up.”

All songs from GREASE: School Edition are authorised for performance only as part of the full musical under license solely from TRW. Individual songs or excerpts from GREASE: School Edition may not be licensed through any other third-parties or performed separately in any manner whatsoever.

SANDY DUMBROWSKI — Female, High School Teen. New girl in town; sweet, wholesome, naive, cute, and innocent. (Soprano, A3–F#5)

THE PINK LADIES — The club-jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls’ gang who hang around with the Burger Palace Boys.
BETTY RIZZO — Female, High School Teen. Leader of the Pink Ladies; tough, sarcastic, and outspoken but vulnerable. (Alto A3–C5)
FRENCHY — Female, High School Teen. A dreamer; good-natured but not too smart, she is heavily made up, fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can’t wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. (Alto, A3–D5)
MARTY — Female, High School Teen. The ‘beauty’ of the Pink Ladies; pretty and looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated. (Alto, C4–C5)
JAN — Female, High School Teen. Funny, loud, and awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys. (Alto, A3-C5)

THE BURGER PALACE BOYS — A super-cool, DA-haired, hard-looking group of high school wheeler-dealers… or so they think.
DOODY — Male, High School Teen. The youngest of the guys; small, boyish, and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. He also plays the guitar. (Tenor, D4-A5)
KENICKIE — Male, High School Teen. The second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough-looking, tattooed, surly, and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humor. (Tenor, C4–F5)
SONNY LATIERRI — Male, High School Teen. A member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he’s a real lady-killer. (Baritone, G3–A5)
ROGER — Male, High School Teen. The anything-for-a-laugh stocky type of boy; a clown who enjoys winding people up, he is full of mischief and is always dreaming up half-baked schemes and ideas. (Tenor, D4-A5)

VINCE FONTAINE — Male, High School Teen. A typical ‘teen audience’ disc jockey; slick, egotistical and fast-talking. He is also a veteran ‘Greaser.’
CHA-CHA (aka CHARLENE) DIGREGORIO — Female, High School Teen. The best dancer at St. Bernadette’s; a loud mouth, she wins the dancing competition with Danny. (Alto, C4–C5)

MISS LYNCH — Female, Age Flexible. A no-nonsense, serious, loud English teacher.
PATTY SIMCOX — Female, High School Teen. A typical cheerleader; attractive, athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She’s a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton. (Alto, D4-A4)
TEEN ANGEL — Male, Age Flexible. Frenchy’s suave and slick guardian angel, who encourages her to stay in school. (Tenor, E4–F5)
RADIO VOICE — Male, Age Flexible. A voice on the radio. (Tenor, A3–C5)
